St. David’s Day Events at Disneyland Paris

You will feel right at home during your visit to Disneyland Paris at the beginning of March since the theme park will be celebrating St David’s Day with a special Welsh festival. From March 5th to 7th, the park and village will be transformed to try and capture the rolling green hills and lush valleys of the British Isles.

According to the official website, “Disney icons Mickey and Minnie will don their best Welsh-themed outfits for the occasion” and there will be all kinds of music, dancing, culture and crafts on offer. “The Welsh spirit will soar with a traditional Welsh Choir, face-painting and fireworks – it’s a red, white and green as you’ve never, ever seen,” organisers add.

For a true taste of the UK, holidaymakers can also watch a performance from a Welsh Male Voice Choir that will take place throughout Friday and Saturday by the Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Visitors are advised to book tickets through their travel agent and are also reminded that during the event, children under the age of 12 can stay and play at the resort for free.

Fans of Tolkien will be gathering in Machynlleth in mid-Wales next year for the eagerly-awaited ‘Festival in the Shire’, a celebration of the Welsh influences on the author of ‘The Lord of the Rings’. They won’t just be treated to special guests and rare collections, though – for the first time ever, festival attendees will also be offered free access to a 14 hour mp3-based Welsh language course. Tolkien based his High Elvish language Sindarin on Welsh structures and sounds, and the popular, ground-breaking SaySomethinginWelsh.com will offer Tolkien lovers the opportunity to learn a surprising amount of this ancient tongue in a very short amount of time.

With the recent announcement that Samsung and Orange have joined forces to launch the UK’s first Welsh language predictive text messaging phone on 1st September, Rightmobilephone.co.uk has found the top 10 most popular English UK text message slang-abbreviations and had them translated into Welsh and created this handy pocket guide.

As Samsung and Orange get ready to launch the first Welsh language predictive text mobile phone at the end of the month, the UK’s biggest mobile phone comparison site has researched the top 10 most common slang abbreviations currently in use, and translated them into Welsh in order to help kids and text-savvy adults across Wales get down with the lingo.

www.Rightmobilephone.co.uk spoke to 1878 mobile-phone owners to find the Top Ten most popular abbreviations currently used and here is the list along with the Welsh translations.

Since the announcement of the phone’s launch, Rightmobilephone.co.uk has been inundated with requests for further information and where to get the best deals on it. The phone itself will store around 44,000 Welsh words in predictive text.

Wales U18 Basketball Squad Received Donation from Mars Refuel Drink Fund

The Welsh U18 Basketball squad is celebrating after being selected to receive a £500 donation from the Mars Refuel Drink Fund.

The squad recently returned from the European championships where they were placed 5th. David Adams, assistant coach and team manager, explains:

“We have been trying for a long while to get more funding and we are thrilled that the Mars Refuel Drink Fund has chosen to support us. We will be using the donation to buy playing kit, team t-shirts and kit bags for the whole squad. This will be a great boost to the team and will encourage them to train and play for longer.”

The MARS Refuel Drink Fund aims to help sports clubs and individuals to play sport for longer. Further information can be found at www.marsrefuel.com. The Mars Refuel Drink Fund is open for entries until September 30 2009.
